Job Description
Coronel & Pérez seeks an Associate for its Labour & Employment practice, based at the firm's Cuenca satellite office. Ecuador's labour framework, governed by the Código del Trabajo and enforced by the Ministerio del Trabajo, creates significant compliance obligations for employers across the Azuay, Cañar, and Morona Santiago provinces.
The role involves advising on employment contracts, collective bargaining, termination procedures (desahucio and visto bueno), and social security obligations under IESS (Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social). The associate will handle labour litigation before Jueces del Trabajo in Cuenca.
Responsibilities
- Advising on hiring, termination, and restructuring under the Código del Trabajo
- Handling visto bueno and desahucio proceedings before the Inspector del Trabajo in Cuenca
- Representing employers in labour disputes before Jueces del Trabajo
- Advising on IESS social security compliance and employer contributions
- Drafting internal regulations (reglamento interno) and employment policies
Requirements
- Título de Abogado from a recognised Ecuadorian university
- 3-5 years of experience in Ecuadorian labour and employment law
- Strong knowledge of the Código del Trabajo and IESS regulations
- Experience with labour litigation before Jueces del Trabajo and the Corte Provincial
- Familiarity with occupational health and safety regulations
- Based in Cuenca or willing to relocate
