Job Description
Ashurst's Sydney office at 5 Martin Place is seeking an Associate for its Digital Economy practice. You will advise on technology transactions, data privacy, cyber security, and AI governance, helping Australian businesses navigate the rapidly evolving digital regulatory landscape including the Privacy Act reform and the Online Safety Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on technology procurement, SaaS agreements, and outsourcing arrangements
- Handle Privacy Act 1988 compliance including data breach notifications under the NDB scheme
- Advise on the Consumer Data Right (CDR) regime and open banking/energy data sharing
- Support clients on AI governance frameworks and the proposed AI safety standards
Requirements
- Admitted as a solicitor in NSW; 3-5 years PQE in technology, privacy, or IP
- Knowledge of the Privacy Act 1988, APPs, CDR regime, and Online Safety Act 2021
- Experience with technology transactions (SaaS, PaaS, outsourcing)
- Commercial approach to emerging technology issues
