Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Deputy General Counsel based in United States.

You will act as a strategic legal advisor, partnering with executive leaders to navigate complex business, regulatory, and operational challenges.
The position combines legal leadership, business strategy, and innovation, with a strong focus on improving legal operations through technology.
You will oversee a broad range of matters, including governance, commercial transactions, privacy, compliance, and risk management.
As a key member of the leadership team, you will help build scalable processes and guide high-impact decisions across the organization.

Accountabilities:

    The Deputy General Counsel will provide strategic legal guidance while helping build an efficient, scalable, and technology-forward legal organization. This role requires strong business judgment, leadership capabilities, and the ability to translate complex legal matters into practical solutions that support growth and innovation.

    • Partner with executive leadership and senior stakeholders to define legal strategy, governance frameworks, risk management approaches, and business priorities.
    • Support the General Counsel in managing the Legal Department鈥檚 strategy, operations, and overall effectiveness.
    • Lead and mentor a high-performing legal team while fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Identify opportunities to leverage AI tools and modern technologies to enhance legal research, drafting, knowledge management, and operational efficiency.
    • Advise business teams on corporate, commercial, regulatory, privacy, consumer protection, employment, and compliance matters.
    • Manage complex legal issues, including strategic transactions, commercial agreements, disputes, and high-impact regulatory matters.
    • Draft, review, negotiate, and oversee a wide variety of business agreements and strategic partnerships.
    • Strengthen legal operations, entity management, governance processes, workflows, and internal policies to support organizational growth.
    • Oversee outside counsel relationships and coordinate litigation, disputes, and other specialized legal matters.
    • Develop legal training programs and promote risk-aware decision-making throughout the organization.
    • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a remote-first, highly collaborative, and asynchronous work environment.
    • Requirements:

      The ideal candidate is a seasoned legal professional with extensive in-house experience, strong corporate expertise, and a passion for leveraging technology to transform legal operations.

      • 12+ years of relevant legal experience, including at least 5 years working in an in-house legal environment.
      • Proven experience advising executive teams on strategic legal matters, governance, risk management, and business initiatives.
      • Strong background as a corporate generalist with expertise in corporate governance, commercial transactions, and business operations.
      • Experience supporting technology, internet, platform, e-commerce, consumer, or subscription-based businesses.
      • Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters involving consumer protection, litigation, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
      • Experience with international operations and domestic or global regulatory frameworks is preferred.
      • Knowledge of privacy, data governance, and cybersecurity matters is highly valuable.
      • Curiosity about artificial intelligence and experience adopting AI-enabled workflows to improve legal practices and team efficiency.
      • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence executives, business leaders, and legal partners.
      • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring, developing, and scaling legal teams.
      • Excellent business judgment, adaptability, creativity, and comfort operating in ambiguous environments.
      • Ability to challenge traditional approaches while maintaining a practical, solutions-oriented legal mindset.
