Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Contracts Counsel based in United States.

This role is a key legal leadership position within a fast-paced, clinical-stage biotechnology environment, responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of commercial, clinical, research, and operational agreements. You will serve as a strategic legal partner to business and scientific teams, helping structure and negotiate complex contracts that directly enable drug development and organizational growth. The position requires strong business judgment, deep contract expertise, and the ability to balance legal risk with practical execution in a highly regulated industry. You will operate in a fully remote setting while collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders across the organization. This role is highly impactful, influencing both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic initiatives. It is well suited for a pragmatic legal professional who thrives in dynamic, science-driven environments and enjoys building scalable contracting frameworks.

Accountabilities:

    • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of agreements, including clinical trial agreements, manufacturing and supply contracts, consulting agreements, confidentiality agreements, licensing arrangements, and master service agreements supporting biotech operations.
    • Partner closely with internal stakeholders across clinical, regulatory, commercial, and operational teams to structure transactions, assess legal and business risks, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
    • Provide legal guidance and resolution support for contract-related disputes, ensuring issues are addressed efficiently while minimizing operational disruption.
    • Drive continuous improvement of contracting processes, including development of templates, policies, workflows, and contract management systems to improve scalability and efficiency.
    • Coordinate with external counsel and advisors when required to support specialized legal matters and complex negotiations.
    • Contribute to broader legal, compliance, and corporate initiatives as needed to support evolving business priorities.
    • Requirements:

      • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
      • 5+ years of legal experience, ideally within biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or in a law firm supporting life sciences clients.
      • Strong expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial, clinical, research, and operational agreements in a regulated environment.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate legal concepts into clear, business-oriented guidance.
      • Strong business judgment and problem-solving ability, with a practical and solutions-focused mindset in high-pressure situations.
      • Highly organized, detail-oriented professional capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
      • Collaborative and independent working style, with the ability to operate autonomously while contributing effectively to cross-functional teams.
      • Benefits:

        • Competitive compensation package with eligibility for annual incentive plans
        • Health, dental, and vision insurance coverage
        • 401(k) retirement savings plan
        • Paid time off and company holidays
        • Remote-first work environment
        • Eligibility for performance-based bonuses tied to individual and company results
        • Opportunity to work in a high-growth, clinical-stage biotechnology setting
        • Occasional travel opportunities (up to ~10%) depending on business needs
