International Law & Treaty Advisor — Ministry of Justice, Jerusalem
The Ministry of Justice International Law Department is seeking an International Law & Treaty Advisor. This prestigious role involves advising the Government of Israel on public international law, treaty obligations, and Israel's engagement with international legal institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise government ministries on public international law questions including treaty interpretation and state responsibility
- Draft and review bilateral and multilateral treaty texts and agreements
- Represent Israel in international legal forums and negotiations
- Advise on international humanitarian law, human rights law, and the law of armed conflict
- Handle mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) requests and international cooperation in legal matters
- Coordinate Israel's legal positions in proceedings before international courts and tribunals
- Advise on the domestic implementation of international treaties under Israeli constitutional law (Basic Laws)
Requirements
- Israel Bar Association membership with active license
- 5-10 years of experience in international law, public law, or diplomatic legal service
- LLB from Hebrew University, Tel Aviv University, or equivalent; LLM in public international law from a leading institution strongly preferred
- Deep knowledge of public international law, treaty law (Vienna Convention), and international institutional law
- Fluent Hebrew and English; French and/or Arabic are significant advantages
- Israeli citizenship and ability to obtain high-level security clearance
- Published academic work in international law is valued
