Japan Desk Legal Associate — Mori Hamada & Matsumoto Myanmar

Mori Hamada & Matsumoto seeks a Legal Associate for our Japan Desk in Yangon to support Japanese investors and companies operating in Myanmar. Working from our Centrepoint Towers office, you will advise on manufacturing joint ventures in Thilawa SEZ, construction and infrastructure projects, and corporate restructuring matters.

This role requires understanding of both Myanmar and Japanese business culture, as you will serve as a bridge between our Tokyo headquarters and Myanmar operations. You will handle JICA-related project documentation, BOT concession agreements, and labor law compliance for Japanese manufacturing companies under the Employment and Skill Development Law 2013.

• Advise Japanese clients on Myanmar market entry and joint venture structuring
• Draft and review joint venture agreements, shareholders agreements, and supply contracts
• Handle Thilawa SEZ company registrations and regulatory compliance
• Advise on labor law matters under the Employment and Skill Development Law 2013
• Support BOT and infrastructure project documentation
• Liaise between Tokyo headquarters and local Myanmar counsel

• LL.B. from a recognized Myanmar or international university
• 2-5 years of corporate or commercial law experience
• Japanese language skills (JLPT N2 or above) strongly preferred
• Knowledge of Myanmar Companies Law 2017 and SEZ Law 2014
• Experience with joint venture structuring and foreign investment
• Understanding of labor law compliance in Myanmar
• Familiarity with Japanese business practices
