Job Description
Kaplan & Stratton seeks an Associate for its niche Shipping & Maritime practice. The firm advises on port operations at Mombasa port, cargo claims, ship arrests, maritime liens, and cross-border trade facilitation. With Kenya's position as East Africa's maritime gateway, this is a rare and growing practice area.
Responsibilities
Handle cargo damage and loss claims under Hague-Visby Rules. Draft and review charterparty agreements, bills of lading, and shipping contracts. Advise on ship arrests and maritime liens at Mombasa port. Support international trade transactions including letters of credit and customs disputes. Liaise with Kenya Maritime Authority and Kenya Ports Authority.
Requirements
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. 2-4 years PQE in maritime law, international trade, or commercial litigation. Knowledge of Kenya's Merchant Shipping Act 2009 and UNCITRAL model law. Understanding of Mombasa port operations and SGR logistics is an advantage.
