If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for affirmative and defensive civil litigation. Typical work assignments will include: Prepare and organize documentation, evidence, or other documentary data for trials. Provide advice on the most efficient method for preparing legal documents. Use multiple online legal systems to research, evaluate, and analyze a variety of routine legal topics and/or points of law. Draft initial legal and administrative briefs, motions, oppositions to defense motions and correspondence for Assistant United States Attorney's (AUSA) review. Develop and enter various case material into a computer database. Prepare and organize exhibits, documents, memoranda, reports, and correspondence relating to cases for review by AUSAs for interviews, depositions, or use at trial. Provide litigation case management and organize cases for court presentation. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. This position is considered a career ladder opportunity, with a full performance level of GS-09. If selected at a lower grade level, you may be non-competitively promoted to the next grade level at the discretion of your supervisor and is contingent upon meeting regulatory and legal requirements for promotion, satisfactory performance, and the availability of higher-level work. GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, a Combination of Education and Experience, or Superior Academic Achievement. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include drafting a variety of legal documents and correspondence; assisting in trial preparation by compiling, organizing, and indexing various evidentiary exhibits; reviewing legal documents to extract information related to specific issues; verifying citations and statutory references contained in legal documents; and utilizing various computerized database programs to organize extensive documents. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. Criminal Justice, Law): 1 full year of graduate-level education leading to a Master's degree or higher; OR a completed Bachelor's degree or equivalent with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's Qualification Standards. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of one full year. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
