Job Description

Senior Legal Counsel – Capital Markets & Derivatives

Societe Generale Luxembourg on Avenue Emile Reuter is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for its Capital Markets and Derivatives desk, supporting the bank's structured products, OTC derivatives, and securities lending activities booked through Luxembourg.

Luxembourg serves as a key European booking centre for Societe Generale's capital markets activities. You will advise on ISDA Master Agreements, GMRA/GMSLA documentation, and EMIR/SFTR regulatory compliance for the Luxembourg booking entity.

What You Will Do

  • Negotiate ISDA Master Agreements, CSAs, and related derivatives documentation
  • Advise on GMRA and GMSLA documentation for repo and securities lending transactions
  • Advise on EMIR clearing, margining, and reporting obligations under Luxembourg law
  • Support the Capital Markets desk on structured product documentation and legal risk
  • Advise on SFTR reporting and regulatory compliance for securities financing transactions

Responsibilities

  • Lead derivatives documentation negotiations for the Luxembourg booking entity
  • Advise on EMIR, SFTR, and MiFID II compliance matters
  • Support the Capital Markets desk on structured product and derivatives legal risk
  • Manage external counsel relationships for complex transactions
  • Monitor regulatory developments affecting capital markets activities

Requirements

  • Master in Law from a recognised European university
  • 7-10 years of experience in capital markets, derivatives, or banking law
  • Strong knowledge of ISDA documentation, EMIR, and SFTR regulatory frameworks
  • Experience negotiating complex derivatives and securities financing documentation
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Knowledge of Luxembourg financial collateral law is an advantage
