Gonzaga University School of Law has won the 2025 Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, the national trademark and unfair competition law moot run by the International Trademark Association. At the national finals in Washington, D.C., on 8 March 2025, Gonzaga took First Place Overall and also won Best Brief. Our congratulations to the advocates, their coaches, and the school.
The championship team
Gonzaga's national title was won by a four-student team:
- Alexia "Lexi" Howard-Mullins
- Jaren Perry
- Karla Lozano-Smith
- Evan Surrency
The team was coached by Rhett Barney, a partner at Lee & Hayes, and Libby Zinke, IP counsel at Plaid. Winning both the overall championship and the Best Brief award, against a national field, marks the team among the strongest student trademark advocates in the country for the year.
About the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition
Named for the late Saul Lefkowitz, a distinguished trademark jurist, the competition is organised by the International Trademark Association and its foundation. Teams argue a simulated appellate case centred on trademark and unfair competition law, first through regional rounds and then at national finals in Washington, D.C. It is the premier trademark-focused moot court competition in the United States, and a proving ground for future intellectual property lawyers.
