airBaltic (AS Air Baltic Corporation) is Latvia's national airline and flag carrier, headquartered at Tehnikas iela 3 at Riga International Airport (Lidosta Riga) in Marupe municipality, just south of the capital. Majority-owned by the Latvian state (97.97%) with the remainder held by private investors, airBaltic employs approximately 2,800 professionals representing over 30 nationalities and operates an all-Airbus A220-300 fleet connecting Riga with over 80 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. The in-house legal and compliance team manages an extraordinarily complex multi-jurisdictional regulatory framework including EU aviation regulation under Regulation (EC) 1008/2008, passenger rights under Regulation (EC) 261/2004, aviation safety under EASA requirements, slot allocation at coordinated airports, competition law under both Latvian Konkurences likums and EU regulations, employment law under the Darba likums (Labour Law) for a multinational workforce, GDPR data protection for millions of passengers, state aid compliance as a state-owned enterprise, public procurement, and environmental regulation including the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). airBaltic is supervised by the Latvian Civil Aviation Agency (Civilas aviacijas agenturas) and subject to oversight as a state-owned company.
