Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL) is the Grand Duchy's oldest private bank, founded in 1856 and headquartered at 69 Route d'Esch in Luxembourg City. As a Significant Institution directly supervised by the European Central Bank under the Single Supervisory Mechanism, BIL employs approximately 1,800 professionals across retail, private, and corporate banking as well as financial markets. The in-house legal department handles complex regulatory compliance under Luxembourg's Banking Law (Loi du 5 avril 1993), CSSF prudential supervision, AML/KYC frameworks implementing the 4th and 5th EU Anti-Money Laundering Directives, MiFID II/MiFIR obligations, GDPR data protection, and cross-border wealth structuring. BIL's legal team also advises on Luxembourg-specific fiduciary and private wealth management regulations, working closely with the CSSF, the BCL (Banque Centrale du Luxembourg), and the CAA (Commissariat aux Assurances).
