Bulgartabac Holding AD is Bulgaria's historic state tobacco monopoly, now majority-owned by British American Tobacco (BAT) following a landmark privatisation completed in 2011. Headquartered at 62 Graf Ignatiev Street in Sofia's Sredets district, Bulgartabac is one of the largest industrial conglomerates in Bulgaria and the Balkans, encompassing tobacco farming, processing, manufacturing, and distribution operations. With approximately 3,000 employees across the group, Bulgartabac's legal and compliance department manages complex regulatory matters under the Zakon za tyutyuna i tyutyunevite izdeliya (Tobacco and Tobacco Products Act), EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) compliance, excise duty regulation, competition law filings with KZK, extensive real estate portfolio management (the group holds significant property assets across Bulgaria), intellectual property and trademark protection across multiple jurisdictions, employment law for a large manufacturing workforce under the Kodeks na truda (Labour Code), and environmental compliance for its industrial operations.
