About Eesti Pank
Eesti Pank (Bank of Estonia) is Estonia's central bank, established in 1919 and headquartered at Estonia pst 13 in Tallinn's Kesklinn district, in a landmark building near Toompea Hill and the Estonian Parliament (Riigikogu). As a member of the Eurosystem since Estonia adopted the euro in 2011, Eesti Pank participates in the monetary policy of the European Central Bank and contributes to the ECB's decision-making through the Governing Council. With approximately 260 employees including a significant legal and compliance division, the central bank oversees financial stability analysis, macroprudential supervision, payment systems oversight, currency issuance, and economic research. The legal department handles institutional law under Eesti Panga seadus (Bank of Estonia Act), EU institutional and financial regulatory frameworks, international agreements, and cooperation with the Finantsinspektsioon (Financial Supervision Authority). Eesti Pank also plays a key role in Estonia's innovative approach to digital finance, including research into central bank digital currencies (CBDC) and blockchain-based settlement systems.
