UNAMI Legal Affairs Office

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Legal Affairs Office provides legal support to the UN's political mission in Iraq, covering constitutional advisory, rule of law programming, human rights monitoring, and legislative reform. UNAMI legal officers work on transitional justice mechanisms, support the Iraqi judiciary's capacity building, advise on election law compliance, and engage with Iraqi parliamentarians on draft legislation. The office operates from the UN compound in Baghdad's International Zone and maintains field offices in Erbil, Basra, and Kirkuk. UNAMI legal staff collaborate with the Iraqi High Judicial Council, the Kurdistan Judicial Council, and civil society organizations on access to justice initiatives.
