Steps to Become a Lawyer in Uganda
Complete A-Level Education
Score well in UACE, particularly in Arts subjects. Most law faculties at Ugandan universities require a minimum of 2 principal passes.
Earn a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree
Complete a 4-year LLB program at an accredited university. Makerere University, Uganda Christian University (UCU), and Kampala International University are leading choices.
Attend the Law Development Centre (LDC)
After your LLB, complete the Bar Course at the Law Development Centre in Kampala. The program is typically 1 year and covers practical legal training.
Pass the Bar Examinations
Sit and pass the LDC Bar examinations. The exams test practical skills in litigation, conveyancing, legal writing, and professional conduct.
Enroll as an Advocate
After passing, apply for enrollment as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda. You must also register with the Uganda Law Society to practice.
