Job Description

The Indian Employment Counsel serves as the company’s authoritative subject matter expert on Indian labor and employment law, operating with significant autonomy and accountability.

This role combines strategic leadership with direct execution, providing trusted counsel to senior leaders while also independently managing day‑to‑day employment law matters.

The position requires the judgment and confidence to advise on workforce strategy, risk, and complex central and state labor laws, as well as the ability to translate legal requirements into practical guidance that enables the business to operate effectively and compliantly.

Equally strategic and hands‑on, the role owns employment law support across the full employee lifecycle in India, including drafting and maintaining employment documentation, advising on compensation and benefits, managing separations, and supporting acquisitions, restructurings, and growth initiatives.

As the primary expert, the Indian Employment Counsel personally develops templates, guidance, and processes, partners closely with HR and business leaders on real‑time issues and leads employment‑related risk management.

The role also determines when and how to engage external counsel, ensuring efficient, commercially sound outcomes in a fast‑paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience practicing employment law, with significant experience advising on complex business matters and supporting organizational decision‑making.

A background that demonstrates strong commercial judgment, independence, and credibility with senior stakeholders is essential.

Prior in‑house experience is strongly preferred but not required, provided the candidate has meaningful exposure to advising businesses in a practical, solutions‑oriented manner.
