Job Description
Stevens Institute of Technology is accepting applications for the position of Assistant General Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel. This is an opportunity to practice as a generalist for a successful nonprofit research university in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Responsibilities:
Opportunity to practice as a generalist for a successful nonprofit research university located in Hoboken NJ. Practice to include a wide variety of matters with a focus on employment and labor law, negotiation and drafting of a wide range of contracts, litigation, regulatory compliance and data privacy/IT. Other relevant areas include athletics, student affairs, and the laws relating to 501(c)(3) organizations and fundraising. Must have strong experience in one or more areas and be eager to develop expertise in other areas. Excellent opportunity for someone committed to becoming, or developing as, a higher education attorney and interested in being part of a dynamic university community. Small fast-paced collegial office with a hybrid work environment.
Minimum Requirements:
- A law degree from an accredited institution and current admission to practice law in good standing in the State of New Jersey.
- Four to six years of relevant experience in the active practice of law, including significant experience in litigation and/or employment law, as well as experience or interest in one or more of the other practice areas described above.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent judgment and interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate effectively within a small office and across a larger decentralized university community.

Compensation Range
In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $147,000.00 - $200,933.33. This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position’s scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
