AES Renewables & Power is a leader in clean energy development and one of the largest renewable energy IPPs in the country. This position will play an important role within the legal group, focusing primarily on tax equity and debt project financing transactions. This position requires a high level of expertise with the ability to clearly communicate, identify and mitigate risks, and manage outside counsel.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend to all aspects and issues related to renewable project development and financing, with a special focus on financing of solar, solar plus storage, stand-alone storage and wind projects.
Act as lead internal counsel on tax equity, tax credit transfer and debt financings for such projects as well as corporate financings.
Structure, draft, review and effectively negotiate financing transactions as well as project-related documents (e.g., power purchase agreements, engineering, procurement and construction contracts).
Manage and coordinate closings with AES team members and outside counsel.
Effectively and efficiently engage and manage outside counsel.
Provide general legal counsel and strategic guidance to senior and executive-level management.
Desired Experience and Skills:
At least 10 years of relevant experience, preferably at a major law firm or sophisticated in-house legal group.
At least 6 years of experience in project finance transactions for renewable energy projects with the ability to lead transactions as in-house finance counsel.
Experience in project development and project-related documentation.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to adapt to a variety of duties and work in a fast-paced environment.
Smart, decisive, organized, methodical, biased toward action.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree
J.D. from an accredited law school
Compensation
$193,000 - $241,400/year
