Job Description

The Trade Compliance Coordinator supports district-level customs operations by ensuring regulatory compliance and operational accuracy across both import and export activities. This role involves monitoring shipments, coordinating with internal teams, and maintaining documentation to meet U.S. Customs and Border Protection, export control regulations, and Expeditors’ internal policies. The coordinator ensures alignment with Expeditors’ Operational Process Standards (OPS), which define the company’s global compliance framework, procedures, and performance expectations.

Job Description

  • Serve as a District-Level resource for Customs Compliance
  • Proactively communicate and closely coordinate with Compliance Supervisor, DCM, branch management, and RCM
  • Keeps informed of current and proposed laws, regulations, directives, rules, and policies applicable to the relevant District governing Trade Compliance at Expeditors and regarding the industry in general.
  • Maintain knowledge about Expeditors’ operating systems, including (but not limited to) GCI, CFIT, EDMS, and ETMS, CZ and how those systems support the Company’s ongoing Compliance goals and objectives.
  • Communicate regularly with Compliance Supervisor, DCM and branch management to ensure consistent and accurate messaging, any material changes, and implementation of Trade Compliance goals and objective

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in the enforcement of Expeditors’ Operational Process Standards, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with 19 CFR relating to import and export shipments
  • Ensure compliance with Denied Party Screening, sanctions and embargoes

 

 Internal Reviews and Monitoring

  •  Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly compliance reporting (DG Checklist, IDMA/EDMA, ADD CVD Reimbursement/361).
  • Conduct FTZ audits and site inspections; lead bi-weekly stakeholder meetings.
  • Manage the compliance mailbox and ensure timely reporting.
  • Validate AWB flight data in ACE; coordinate inbond closures with import/export teams.
  • Liaise with Global Customs Support to resolve compliance issues.
  • Maintain accurate customs documentation and support internal audits.
  •  Review IDMA/EDMA results to identify training needs and assist in developing

  • Attend monthly Compliance Conference Calls hosted by CHQ
  • Attend monthly DG calls hosted by CHQ.
  • Attend monthly TSA/CCSF calls hosted by CHQ.

Training

  • Complete all mandatory training requirements each year.
  • Maintain Dangerous Goods certifications.
  • Assist operation personnel with compliance-related questions and issues.
  • Other tasks and duties as deemed appropriate by management.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Access preferred)
  • Fluent in English; strong written and verbal communication
  • Organized, analytical, detail-oriented, and proactive
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and work independently or in teams
  • Reliable, adaptable, and comfortable with numbers and professional settings
  • Willing to support last-minute tasks and work overtime as needed
  • Must be able to commute to all MIA buildings and customer sites

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Passion for compliance and ethical standards
  • Knowledge of trade compliance laws, customs regulations, and tariff classifications
  • Familiarity with Expeditors’ systems (CZ, GCI, CFIT, EDMS, ETMS) and third-party platforms
  • DG certification (U.S. Imports) preferred
  • Strong research, problem-solving, and presentation skills
  • Effective customer service across all organizational levels
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
