Job Description:
This position is a 100% "working in office" position.
Do you enjoy solving puzzles? Are you detail oriented? Do you enjoy helping and educating other people?
If so, you should consider a career as an Examiner with the Nebraska Department of Revenue. Positions in this dynamic and exciting field are on the front lines of tax administration and education. Examiners conduct on-site and in-office reviews of taxpayer documentation to ensure compliance with existing laws and regulations and provide education specific to their tax obligations. After review, they compile work papers to assist taxpayers to voluntarily report any existing liabilities to the State.

Job Duties Include:
1. Conduct on-site and/or in-office reviews to ensure compliance.
2. Prepare workpapers or spreadsheets to document work.
3. Contact taxpayers to request records of information or to explain process and requirements.
4. Respond to taxpayer requests for information and explanations.
5. Document relevant facts, information, results, and recommendation through reports and databases.
6. Discuss findings with Revenue professionals to resolve issues or make recommendations
Requirements/Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Post high school education or training in bookkeeping, accounting, or mathematics and at least two years of related experience; OR associate’s degree in finance or accounting.
Preferred Qualifications: At least six hours in accounting. Work experience in federal or state taxation.
Other: Valid driver’s license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The successful candidate will have:
- Knowledge of financial and accounting records and principles
- Intermediate working knowledge of Word and Excel
- Math skills
- Communication skills
- Analytical abilities
- Research abilities
- For a position in Discovery, an applicant must have the ability for limited travel including extended hours.
