Job Description

You will be part of an international, distributed team of legal, AML and compliance professionals with diverse backgrounds and expertise, supporting Visa Open Banking's European operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a regulated financial institution and to help ensure the organization continues to meet its regulatory obligations through an effective and independent compliance framework. You will work closely with management and stakeholders across the business, providing guidance on regulatory requirements and supporting a strong culture of compliance.

As Compliance Officer, Germany, you will be part of the second line of defense and will support the organization through independent oversight, advice and monitoring of compliance risks and regulatory obligations.

Areas of responsibility:

Focus areas will include compliance management, regulatory governance, risk assessment and regulatory oversight. Responsibilities may include:

  • Advising management and employees on compliance and regulatory matters;
  • Supporting the implementation of new and amended regulatory requirements;
  • Maintaining and improving procedures designed to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements;
  • Identifying, assessing and monitoring compliance risks across products, services, processes and systems;
  • Conducting compliance risk assessments and maintaining a risk-based Compliance Plan;
  • Reviewing new products, services, processes, markets and systems to assess regulatory compliance and participating in new business process assessments;
  • Developing, maintaining and reviewing compliance policies, procedures and internal guidance;
  • Conducting compliance reviews and supporting monitoring and control activities;
  • Individual areas of responsibility may be adapted based on your profile, strengths and evolving business needs.

Additional information

This is a fixed-term employment opportunity based in Germany. The successful candidate will form part of an international Visa Open Banking organization while serving in an independent compliance role supporting the German regulated entity.

  • Supporting the identification, remediation and follow-up of compliance findings and deficiencies;
  • Monitoring legal and regulatory developments and assessing their impact on the organization;
  • Preparing compliance reporting and communicating compliance risks and recommendations to management;
  • Supporting regulatory reporting and acting as a point of contact for supervisory authorities where appropriate;
  • Working closely with Risk Control and other stakeholders to support effective management of compliance risks;
  • Supporting compliance training, awareness activities and the continued development of a strong compliance culture throughout the organization;
  • Supporting compliance aspects of complaints management and other governance processes, as required.

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager. 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Current member in good standing of a State Bar with the ability to become barred or a registered in-house counsel in the state where this role is located.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
  • Relevant academic degree in law, business administration, finance or a related discipline; 
  • Experience working in compliance, legal, risk management, regulatory affairs or another control function within financial services or a regulated industry; 
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance frameworks and risk management principles; 
  • Experience identifying and assessing regulatory or compliance risks; 
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into practical and effective business solutions; 
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; 
  • Ability to work independently while building trusted relationships across the organization; 
  • High integrity, professionalism and sound judgement; 
  • Excellent written and spoken English and German; 
  • Experience from fintech, payments, banking or other regulated financial services environments.
