Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Compliance Officer based in Canada.

This is an opportunity for a compliance professional to play a key role in strengthening enterprise-wide risk management and regulatory compliance within a global payments environment. The role has a strong focus on AML, financial crime prevention, fraud risk, PCI DSS, data protection, and regulatory requirements. You’ll work closely with management, business teams, auditors, regulators, customers, and other external stakeholders. As an individual contributor, you’ll have significant ownership over compliance processes, training, audits, and reporting. This is a dynamic environment suited to someone who is detail-oriented, independent, and comfortable navigating evolving regulatory expectations.

Accountabilities

    • Implement and maintain an enterprise-wide integrated risk management and governance framework.

    • Develop and oversee risk assessment processes covering credit, market, operational, and compliance risks.

    • Maintain and update core corporate risk policies covering AML and financial crime, operational and information security, business continuity, acceptable use, and data protection.

    • Review internal suspicious activity reports and submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) as required.

    • Ensure AML controls are consistent, effective, and appropriately implemented across business areas.

    • Act as a key point of contact for AML audits, regulatory inspections, and payment card scheme reviews.

    • Maintain compliance procedures and provide fraud-related information and reporting as required.

    • Design and deliver internal training programs covering AML, PCI DSS, and compliance policies.

    • Coordinate and support internal and external audits related to PCI, Money Services Business (MSB), and card scheme requirements.

    • Build and maintain trusted relationships with business partners, auditors, customers, regulators, and other stakeholders.

    • Advise management and internal teams on compliance matters, emerging risks, and regulatory expectations.

    • Contribute to a strong culture of risk awareness, accountability, and regulatory compliance.

    • Requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.

      • 2–5 years of professional experience in AML, risk, compliance, financial services, or payments, with payments industry experience preferred.

      • Practical knowledge of Canadian regulatory requirements, including FCAC, FINTRAC, Money Services Business (MSB) requirements, the Code of Conduct for the Payment Card Industry in Canada, and the Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA).

      • Excellent working knowledge of AML frameworks, financial crime prevention, and regulatory compliance practices.

      • Strong familiarity with PCI DSS, fraud risk management, information security, and data protection standards.

      • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and compliance processes.

      • Experience designing and delivering compliance or regulatory training programs.

      • Experience supporting or coordinating internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, or examinations.

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with regulators and auditors.

      • Strong reporting, analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.

      • Highly independent and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment.

      • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to establish credibility with internal and external stakeholders.

      • Benefits

        • Hybrid working model with approximately 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.

        • Competitive remuneration package.

        • Career development opportunities and potential for long-term professional growth.

        • Supportive, inclusive, and collaborative working environment.

        • Diverse and energetic team culture.

        • Ongoing training, learning, and professional support.

        • Opportunity to work on challenging compliance and risk initiatives within the payments industry.

        • Full-time position based in Toronto, Canada.
