Job Description

The Compliance Supervisor supports the district-level Customs and Trade Compliance program by ensuring regulatory compliance and operational accuracy across both import and export activities. This role involves monitoring shipments, coordinating with internal teams, and maintaining documentation to meet U.S. Customs and Border Protection, export control regulations, and Expeditors’ internal policies. The Supervisor ensures alignment with Expeditors’ Operational Process Standards (OPS), which define the company’s global compliance framework, procedures, and performance expectations.

Responsibilities

Customs Compliance

  • Manage payment of Customs duty and fees and prevent late files/payments
  • Manage post-entry activities, including Post Summary Corrections (PSCs), protests, prior disclosures, duty tenders, and other corrective actions, ensuring submissions are tracked through resolution.
  • Partner with operations, brokerage, transportation, and customer-facing teams to resolve customs and entry-processing issues while providing regulatory guidance and compliance support.
  • Support continuous customs bond management activities, including new bond procurement, bond sufficiency reviews, renewals, rider processing, and customer communications.
  • Review, approve, and maintain Customs Powers of Attorney (POAs) and monitor renewal and expiration requirements.
  • Support entry cancellations, Temporary Importation Under Bond (TIB) activities, extensions, and liquidation monitoring.
  • Monitor Antidumping/Countervailing compliance using internal tools.

 

Trade Compliance

  • Monitor DG operational compliance and implement corrective actions as needed to mitigate risk and provide guidance to our operational teams when questions arise.
  • Support the Air Cargo Security Program by ensuring operational compliance with TSA requirements, training standards, documentation requirements, and established security procedures.
  • Antiboycott – Review commercial documents and letters of credit for potential anto-boycott verbiage and escalate for review as needed.
  • Sanctions/Embargoes – Support with awareness training and escalations for approval to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Ensure operational adherence to Expeditors’ Prohibited and Restricted Commodities policies and procedures.
  • Oversee denied party screening processes and support resolution of screening alerts and escalations.

 

General

  • Partner with the District Compliance Manager to analyze compliance assessment trends and develop and deliver targeted branch training programs that reinforce operational compliance.
  • Partner with operational leadership to implement corrective actions, enhance compliance controls, and promote a culture of regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Lead special projects and compliance initiatives related to operations, regulatory changes, and process improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrate ability to research and troubleshoot complex compliance questions.
  • Keep abreast of all applicable Customs and Trade Compliance laws, rules, regulations and directives
  • Support with compliance team development and guidance.
  • Promote awareness of customs and trade compliance requirements through ongoing communication, coaching, and training initiatives.

Employee Development (Supervisor, All) 

In conjunction with department leadership, properly on-boards new hires and ensures team members have clear expectations. Provides frequent feedback that is timely, accurate, and honest. Participates in regular one-one-ones and an annual review for employees. Assists manager with development plans for employees that addresses competency gaps and/or prepares employees for growth. Ensures employees complete 52 hours of relevant training each year and that required training is completed timely. Fosters a climate of compliance within the team, including to company culture, internal policies and government regulations. Promotes employee engagement and team vision, commitment and trust. Develops a #2. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Customs Broker

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-3 Years of Customs Brokerage Experience
  • Dangerous Goods Certification(s)
  • Air Cargo Security Experience
  • Export Compliance Knowledge
  • FTZ Knowledge
  • Demonstrated Leadership or Management Experience
