Job Description

Purpose:

The US Compliance Team Lead  will be part of a Global Onsite Team supporting one of Expeditors High Tech customers within an import/export operation. The Team Lead is a key member of the import/export compliance team which facilitates the efficient and timely movement of goods worldwide. This is a leadership role, and the dynamic nature of this team requires individuals who can think quickly, act independently, and proactively solve problems before they arise. Strong customer service skills and effective communication are required.

The US Compliance Team Lead will be accountable for meeting all major duties and responsibilities outlined below in a timely and responsive manner, as directed by the Local Onsite Customs Manager.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Support the Operations Supervisor/Manager in process improvements or initiatives and escalations

  • Making sure the team processes all customer requests in a timely manner

  • Making sure all the processes are documented / updated and properly communicated

  • Drive strategy with the team, continuously look at opportunities and provide recommendations  to improve operational processes

  • Responsible for daily tracking of operational metrics and regular performance reporting. Monitor team’s metrics and ensure to achieve the standards under outlined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).  

  • Support drive\ on any projects or complicated requests, identifying the tasks needed to complete the project then delegate if possible.

  • Lead daily huddles with the team to review workflow, priority requests, action items for the day

  • Lead weekly syncs with Google Compliance Managers on status of reports, aging tickets, aging CI’s and process questions.

  • Advise customers on import/ export procedure updates / restrictions and customs related matters

  • Ensure compliance at all times to regulations. This includes internal policies and procedures such as Standard Work Instructions (SWI), external government regulations and customer policies / requirements.

  • Maintain and further regional matter expertise

  • Actively engaged in advanced planning deployments

  • Attention to detail and elevates matters with sense of urgency for timely resolution

  • Requires good communication skills in a collaborative environment

  • Provides ongoing status updates to the local management


 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications, Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university. Master’s Degree preferred. 

  • 3-5 years related experience in the high-tech sector, import or export compliance, and international logistics operations. 

  • Customs Brokerage License preferred

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of direct experience managing and leading teams.

  • Technical expertise in import/export compliance

  • Effective interpersonal skills, including proven abilities to listen, comprehend, effectively communicate clearly and concisely to obtain positive results. 

  • Demonstrated experience interacting with external and internal customers to gather information and coordinate projects and/or shipments to satisfy the customer’s needs

  • Demonstrated knowledge of compliance, import/export/trade regulations, global freight forwarding, export/import operations.

  • Proactive, strong organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, email and various PC based software
