What you'll be doing

Compliance & Global Regulatory Affairs (Compliance & GRA) helps our bank develop and execute a strong, proactive regulatory compliance and regulatory affairs strategy while effectively managing regulatory risk. Within Compliance & GRA, the Compliance and EAML Examinations Program (CEEP) is a centre of excellence made up of multi-skilled examination teams, including the Wealth Compliance Examinations team. This team provides independent oversight of compliance with the laws and regulations that apply to CIBC's Investment Fund Manager, Portfolio Manager, Investment Dealer, and Mutual Fund Dealer businesses, while also monitoring, advising on, and reporting adherence to regulatory and business requirements, CIBC policies, best practices, and standards of business ethics and conduct. As a Regulatory Compliance Examiner, you'll report to the Director, Regulatory Compliance Testing and execute complex examinations across CIBC Asset Management and Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) Investment Dealer and Mutual Fund Dealer activities. You'll conduct testing to assess the design adequacy and operating effectiveness of processes and controls that mitigate regulatory and operational risk. You'll also support the evaluation of remediation plans developed by the lines of business to address identified deficiencies and contribute to continuous improvement across the examination program.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

  • Perform examinations - Execute high-quality, thorough, and timely Wealth Compliance examinations. Apply your knowledge of CIBC Asset Management Inc. (CAMI), including its Investment Fund Manager and Portfolio Manager activities, as well as CIBC's Investment Dealer and Mutual Fund Dealer businesses, to assess the effectiveness of processes and controls and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support remediation and validation - Provide support in the remediation and validation of Wealth-related deficiencies identified through the CEEP program. Review action plans and help assess whether issues have been effectively addressed.
  • Provide regulatory oversight - Stay current on changes across the wealth management regulatory landscape, including developments related to Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) national instruments and CIRO rules and regulations. Use this knowledge to support the team and lines of business with guidance on regulatory requirements, best practices, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with impact - Clearly communicate examination observations and compliance findings with internal partners, including subject matter experts across Compliance, Governance and Controls, Legal, Risk Management, Portfolio Management, Trading, Product Development, Marketing, Regulatory Reporting, and Operations.
  • Build strong partnerships - Develop and maintain positive working relationships with lines of business and key partners across Wealth Governance, Legal, Risk, and Compliance. Support these partners in strengthening a regulatory compliance culture through practical, effective, and efficient processes and controls.
  • Contribute to team leadership - Share knowledge with the Examinations team and support changes that strengthen the Compliance Examinations Program. Help create an environment where different perspectives are welcomed and collaboration can thrive.

Who you are

  • You have relevant education. You have completed an undergraduate degree in a related field and may be working toward a professional designation such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). You bring academic knowledge of wealth management and are motivated to apply it through a regulatory compliance lens.
  • You have relevant experience. You bring experience in wealth compliance, compliance testing, examination, audit, or a related oversight function.
  • You have industry knowledge. You have completed the Canadian Securities Course and the Conduct and Practices Handbook Course through the Canadian Securities Institute.
  • You can demonstrate experience in analyzing and interpreting regulations, policies, and procedures. It's an asset if you have experience identifying issues, applying strategic thinking, and recommending practical, value-added solutions.
  • You embrace and advocate for change. You continuously evolve your thinking and the way you work in order to deliver your best.
  • Your influence makes a difference. You know that relationships and networks are essential to success. You inspire outcomes by sharing your expertise.
  • You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You communicate detailed information in a meaningful way.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
