Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly credible Corporate Investigator – Conduct & Ethics to lead and manage complex corporate compliance and workplace investigations across the organization.

Reporting to the C&E APAC Regional Lead – Corporate Investigator, the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting and overseeing investigations arising from allegations of misconduct reported through the company's various Code of Business Ethics and compliance reporting channels.

This role requires a qualified legal professional with strong investigative, employment law, litigation, ethics, compliance, and employee relations experience. The individual will work closely with senior leadership, Legal, HR, Employee Relations, Compliance, and other internal stakeholders to assess risks, conduct fair and thorough investigations, and recommend appropriate remediation.

Key Responsibilities

Investigations

  • Lead, conduct and oversee complex corporate compliance, ethics, conduct and workplace investigations involving allegations of misconduct.
  • Manage investigations arising through the organization's various reporting and Code of Business Ethics channels.
  • Conduct legally privileged investigations under the direction of legal counsel, ensuring appropriate confidentiality, independence and procedural integrity.
  • Define investigation scope, identify key issues and risks, and develop appropriate investigation strategies and plans.
  • Review and analyse relevant documents, records, communications and other evidence.
  • Conduct sensitive and complex interviews with reporting individuals, witnesses, employees and other relevant parties.
  • Assess evidence objectively and prepare clear, balanced and well-reasoned findings.
  • Maintain appropriate investigation documentation, records, status updates and reporting throughout the investigation lifecycle.
  • Prepare and review confidential investigation reports, legal analyses and other documentation relating to allegations of misconduct.
  • Ensure investigations are concluded in a timely, fair and appropriate manner.

Risk Assessment and Remediation

  • Assess legal, ethical, compliance and employee-related risks arising from allegations and investigations.
  • Provide practical, balanced and risk-based advice to senior business, Legal and HR leadership.
  • Recommend appropriate corrective actions, remediation and risk mitigation measures.
  • Support the implementation and follow-up of agreed remedial actions.
  • Promptly identify and escalate significant or high-risk matters to the Regional Lead and other appropriate stakeholders.
  • Assist leadership in managing sensitive matters involving significant legal, regulatory, reputational or organizational risks.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner closely with regional Corporate Investigators, Geographic Legal and HR Leads, Employee Relations, Compliance and other internal functions.
  • Work with internal and external resources involved in the investigation and resolution of misconduct or inappropriate business practices.
  • Consult with HR and Employee Relations leadership regarding the nature, risks, investigation approach and remediation of workplace matters.
  • Collaborate with senior executives and leadership teams to ensure appropriate management and resolution of significant conduct and compliance issues.
  • Build strong and trusted relationships with stakeholders while maintaining the independence and objectivity required of an investigator.

Leadership and Capability Building

  • Provide guidance, coaching and support to attorneys and other personnel involved in corporate compliance investigations.
  • Support and advise local HR, Employee Relations, Legal and other professionals involved in investigations.
  • Develop and enhance internal guidance, processes and best practices relating to corporate compliance and workplace investigations.
  • Stay current on legal and regulatory developments relating to workplace investigations, employee rights, reporting individuals, accused individuals, ethics and compliance standards.
  • Promote consistent, fair and legally sound investigation practices across the region.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Strong experience conducting complex and sensitive workplace, employee relations, ethics or corporate compliance investigations.
  • Strong understanding of employment law, litigation, employee rights and obligations, and workplace conduct matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex facts and provide objective, balanced and legally sound conclusions.
  • Strong business judgment and strategic understanding of legal, compliance and reputational risks.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and advise senior executives and leadership teams.
  • Strong executive presence, credibility and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent interviewing, analytical, problem-solving and investigative skills.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise and well-reasoned confidential investigation reports and legal analyses.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex investigations simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with regional and global teams.
  • Experience working in a multinational and culturally diverse environment.
  • High level of integrity, sound judgment, objectivity and professionalism.

Educational Qualifications

Required

  • Law degree or equivalent legal qualification.
  • Qualified and practicing solicitor, lawyer or equivalent licensed legal professional.

Preferred

  • Additional qualifications or professional training in workplace investigations, ethics, compliance, employee relations or corporate governance.

Skills and Work Experience

Required

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience conducting workplace, employee relations, ethics or corporate compliance investigations; and/or
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in litigation, employment law or a closely related legal practice area.
  • Demonstrated experience managing sensitive and complex employee or corporate misconduct matters.
  • Experience conducting interviews, reviewing evidence, assessing risk and preparing confidential investigation reports.
  • Experience advising senior stakeholders on legal, employee relations, conduct or compliance risks.

Preferred

  • Experience conducting corporate compliance or Code of Business Ethics investigations.
  • Experience working in an in-house legal, multinational corporation, professional services or similarly complex organization.
  • Experience conducting cross-border or multi-jurisdictional investigations.
  • Ability to communicate in Bahasa Malaysia/Malay would be an advantage.
