The OpportunityAs a Country Trade Compliance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the compliant movement of products, software, technologies, and engineering-related goods across global markets within the power industry. In this role, you will help ensure that import, export control, customs, sanctions, and trade compliance requirements are effectively integrated into business operations, project execution, and supply chain activities. You will work closely with teams across supply chain, sales, project management, legal, finance, HR, IT/IS, tax, logistics, and engineering functions to provide practical guidance on regulatory requirements and support compliant business outcomes. Your work will contribute to operational reliability, risk management, and the responsible delivery of technologies that support critical energy infrastructure. You will also have opportunities to expand your expertise across trade regulations, customs governance, export controls, licensing, classification, business processes, and compliance program management while helping drive continuous improvement initiatives in a highly collaborative and regulated environment.How You’ll Make an Impact- Manage implementation of the Global Trade Management Program, internal trade policies, standard operating procedures, and U.S. trade compliance requirements.
- Serve as the primary contact for U.S. customs, export control, sanctions, and other trade-related authorities, including support for audits, inquiries, and disclosures.
- Provide guidance to business units and functions on import, export control, sanctions, customs, tariff, restricted party screening, and deemed export requirements.
- Oversee customs entries and tariff classification activities to support compliant import operations.
- Review and support the release of SAP GTS trade compliance blocks in accordance with internal controls and segregation-of-duty requirements.
- Coordinate with classification teams, technical stakeholders, and business partners to support product, software, and technology classifications, including HTS and ECCN determinations.
- Deliver training, communications, and practical guidance on trade compliance obligations, regulatory changes, and risk areas.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify compliance risks, support corrective actions, strengthen controls, and drive continuous improvement across trade compliance processes.
- Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
- Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, international trade, supply chain, logistics, legal, engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in trade compliance, export controls, customs, import operations, sanctions compliance, logistics compliance, or a related field.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. import regulations, customs requirements, export controls, sanctions, deemed export rules, and trade compliance program governance.
- Experience working with cross-functional business stakeholders and advising on trade compliance matters in a complex multinational environment.
- Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business guidance, controls, training, and corrective actions.
- Experience with trade compliance systems and processes, including SAP GTS or comparable trade management tools.
- Strong communication, judgment, ownership, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders, operational teams, and external parties.
- Demonstrated ability to identify compliance risks, manage escalations, support audits, and drive sustainable process improvements.Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Export Compliance Professional, Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer, or similar trade compliance certification.
- Experience with U.S. CTPAT, tariff programs, Section 232, Section 301, or other trade remedy measures, post-entry reviews, broker management, and customs audit preparation.
- Experience in manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, power systems, industrial technology, engineering, aerospace, defense, or another regulated technical industry.
- Technical familiarity with products, software, technology, engineering data, or applied technologies relevant to import/export classification.
- Experience supporting technology control plans, deemed export assessments, restricted party screening, export licensing, and sensitive transaction reviews.
