This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Criminal Appeals Legal Assistant based in United States.
This role provides essential legal and administrative support within a criminal appeals practice, helping ensure cases progress accurately and efficiently. You will manage case documentation, track deadlines, prepare legal materials, and support day-to-day legal operations. The position involves regular coordination with legal professionals, clients, and family members regarding case updates and information. Attention to detail and strong organization are essential when handling multiple active matters and time-sensitive filings. You will work remotely while supporting a U.S.-based legal practice during Eastern Time business hours. This opportunity is well suited to a proactive legal assistant who is comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
Accountabilities:
- Maintain accurate case records, legal documentation, files, and correspondence throughout the life of each matter.
- Track case progress, monitor deadlines, follow up on pending items, and help ensure required actions and filings are completed on time.
- Support the Office Manager and Paralegal with daily legal operations and ongoing case administration.
- Organize legal files and coordinate with internal team members to keep active matters moving efficiently.
- Prepare case summaries, status reports, and other materials for legal teams and clients.
- Communicate professionally with inmates' family members regarding case updates, relevant information, and pending matters.
- File final legal documents and representation agreements through applicable court systems.
- Prepare legal documents using established templates and procedures while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
- Support case tracking and follow-up activities across multiple matters and competing deadlines.
- 1–2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or in a law firm environment.
- Strong experience filing legal documents through court systems and preparing legal documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills, particularly when managing multiple deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, monitor case progress, and consistently follow up on outstanding items.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Professional and client-focused communication style, including the ability to communicate clearly with clients and family members.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and remain proactive in a fast-paced legal environment.
- Strong time management, case tracking, and follow-up skills.
- Experience with Clio is preferred.
- Clear and professional speaking voice.
- Familiarity with legal technology and tools such as Clio Grow, Clio Manage, Cadence Consult, RingCentral, Google Workspace, and LawPay is relevant to the role.
- Availability to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
- Monthly compensation ranging from $1,142 to $1,220 USD.
