Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Customs & Trade Compliance Subject Matter Expert based in Mexico.

As a Customs & Trade Compliance Subject Matter Expert, you’ll apply your practical knowledge of Mexican customs regulations to complex, realistic import and export scenarios.
You’ll review regulatory and classification challenges, develop expert reference solutions, and clearly document the reasoning behind your decisions.
Your expertise will help capture how experienced professionals approach customs compliance, including interpreting regulations and evaluating alternative solutions.
You’ll contribute directly to the development and evaluation of advanced AI systems designed to support professional customs and trade workflows.
The role offers flexible, project-based consulting work that can be performed remotely from Mexico.
You’ll collaborate with a project team to ensure expert knowledge is accurately translated into high-quality technical reference materials.

Accountabilities:

    • Review realistic import and export scenarios involving Mexican customs regulations, procedures, and compliance requirements.
    • Develop expert reference solutions for customs classification, import/export compliance, and related trade-compliance tasks.
    • Analyze complex regulatory situations and clearly document the reasoning behind classification, compliance, and customs decisions.
    • Reference and interpret applicable Mexican regulations and official frameworks, including Ley Aduanera, LIGIE, TIGIE, NOMs, RRNA, and T-MEC.
    • Review alternative solutions and validate their technical accuracy, completeness, regulatory consistency, and practical applicability.
    • Identify missing information, incorrect assumptions, gaps in reasoning, or inappropriate decision sequences within proposed analyses.
    • Apply practical professional judgment to determine appropriate customs and trade-compliance outcomes.
    • Collaborate with the project team to ensure customs expertise and professional decision-making are accurately represented in reference materials.
    • Contribute expert knowledge and documented workflows that can be used to develop and evaluate advanced AI systems for professional customs and trade compliance.
    • Maintain a high standard of accuracy and consistency when reviewing regulatory scenarios and technical analyses.
    • Requirements:

      • 3+ years of recent, hands-on professional experience in customs brokerage, tariff classification, trade compliance, import/export operations, customs consulting, or a related field.
      • Current or recent practical experience with Mexican customs regulations and procedures, ideally within the past two years.
      • Professional background as an Agente Aduanal, Clasificador Arancelario, Trade Compliance Specialist, Customs Compliance Specialist, Import/Export Compliance Professional, Customs Consultant, or a closely related role.
      • Strong practical knowledge of Mexican customs legislation, procedures, classification principles, and regulatory requirements.
      • Professional fluency in Spanish.
      • Ability to clearly explain, structure, and document the reasoning behind regulatory interpretations and customs classification decisions.
      • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly when reviewing complex regulatory scenarios and identifying inconsistencies.
      • Experience with tariff classification, LIGIE/TIGIE, T-MEC/USMCA, NOMs, RRNA, customs valuation, rules of origin, pedimentos, VUCEM, or customs audits is highly desirable.
      • Experience using official Mexican customs resources such as ANAM, SAT, SNICE, or VUCEM is preferred.
      • Familiarity with commercial customs software is an advantage but not required.
      • Working proficiency in English sufficient to understand project instructions and communicate effectively with the project team.
      • Knowledge of U.S. customs regulations, HTS classification, or Mexico–U.S. cross-border trade operations is a plus.
      • Ability to work independently in a flexible, project-based environment and meet agreed deadlines.
      • Benefits:
