$83,530.00 - $133,471.00 Annually

Hiring Salary Range:

$110,000 - $133,471.00 Annually

Job Summary:  

The Law Department of Baltimore City is seeking a highly qualified attorney to join its Defensive Litigation/Land Use Practice Group.  Qualified candidates should have experience handling legal matters that pertain to four principal areas of law: condemnation (eminent domain) - preferred, zoning and planning, environmental law, and construction/demolition/rehabilitation of property as well as experience in transactional matters.   Excellent research and writing skills and ability to handle community meetings and hearings before zoning are required.

Minimum Qualifications:     

Education: A law degree from an accredited law school. Admission to the Bar of the State of Maryland is required.

AND 

Experience: At least 3 years of experience in zoning, land use and transactional (purchases and sales, leasing, etc.) are required.

OR 

Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. Non- supervisory experience or education may not be substituted for the required supervisory experience. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

  • A working knowledge of the local, state, and federal laws and statues,
  • The ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex matters.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with others (inside and outside the Law Department).
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks.
  • The ability to maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • A strong sense of ownership of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to work with the public and various agencies.
  • A willingness to perform with minimal administrative support.

Background Check                                        

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. 

Probation 

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
