Job Summary:

As a generalist with a commercial savvy mindset, you will provide critical and proactive assistance with a full range of legal work to support the APJ regional business for Cadence, a global leading supplier of EDA software and world-class design system technologies.  Based in Yokohama, Japan, a key hub of regional technology and semiconductor industries, you will be part of Cadence APJ core team to continue to drive for business success and growth for the region, and to witness and support the new wave of booming local semiconductor industries, while closely partnering with our regional and corporate legal, business and operations teams at Cadence.

Key Responsibilities:

As a multi-talented attorney of our close knit regional legal team, you are expected and will be empowered to provide top-notch in-house legal services to our clients, including:

  • Draft, review and negotiate licensing, sales, services, development, procurement, and other technology transaction related agreements and ancillary documents pertaining to the company’s core EDA, semiconductor IP, and Systems Solutions businesses in the Asia-Pac and Japan region.
  • Advise and assist cross functional inhouse professionals on legal and regulatory risk management concerning general employment, corporate, finance, marketing and procurement activities, including review of related third-party contracts.
  • Liaise with global trade compliance team and internal stakeholders and to support regional export control related matters; maintain and improve local programs in support of the same.
  • Implement and maintain local governance compliance programs, including localize and execute corporate compliance programs, delivering trainings, conducting compliance investigations, and other compliance policy reinforcement actions.
  • Provide legal advisory and support on regional IP enforcement and license compliance matters.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • LL.B./LLM/JD from a reputable law school in a Cadence APJ country/region.
  • Bar admission in the U.S. or a Cadence APJ country/region.
  • 10-12 years PQE with experience in MNC companies and/or international law firms.
  • Proven track record with technology transaction and/or IP licensing experience.  Law firm experience as a commercial transaction lawyer strongly preferred. Semiconductor industry experience a big plus.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Fluency in Japanese a must. Fluency in another Cadence APJ country/region language a big plus. 
  • Business savvy pragmatist and superb communicator.
  • Proactive and versatile; detail oriented and efficiency driven.
  • Team synergy builder with a good sense of humor and collegiality.
