Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Inpatient Coding and Compliance based in United States.

This leadership role oversees enterprise-wide coding, compliance, and clinical documentation enhancement programs within a complex healthcare environment.
The position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate medical information management, regulatory compliance, and reimbursement integrity.
You will guide teams responsible for coding quality, documentation improvement, data accuracy, and continuous process optimization.
The role requires strong collaboration with clinical, administrative, and operational stakeholders to improve healthcare data outcomes.
You will use analytics, compliance expertise, and strategic leadership to identify opportunities for improvement and reduce organizational risk.

Accountabilities:

    The Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for coding services, compliance programs, clinical documentation enhancement, and medical information management initiatives. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant data collection while supporting organizational goals across healthcare operations.

    • Lead and oversee inpatient and outpatient coding operations, ensuring accurate assignment of diagnoses, procedures, and clinical data using applicable coding classification systems.
    • Manage coding quality improvement initiatives, documentation enhancement programs, and data quality management processes.
    • Develop, maintain, and monitor compliance programs related to medical information management, coding accuracy, patient confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.
    • Analyze coding performance, documentation quality, reimbursement trends, and organizational metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
    • Partner with healthcare leaders, clinicians, financial teams, case management, and operational stakeholders to align coding practices with business and patient care objectives.
    • Oversee departmental teams, establish priorities, support professional development, and ensure effective resource management.
    • Provide education, guidance, and ongoing training related to coding standards, documentation requirements, and compliance practices.
    • Collaborate on audits, corrective actions, benchmarking initiatives, and process improvements to enhance accuracy and reduce compliance risk.
    • Support strategic initiatives by providing healthcare data insights and assisting with administrative, operational, and research-related information needs.
    • Requirements:

      The ideal candidate brings extensive healthcare coding, compliance, and health information management expertise, with the ability to lead complex programs and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

      • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
      • Active Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
      • 10+ years of relevant experience in coding, health information management, compliance, or related healthcare operations; 15+ years preferred.
      • Strong knowledge of inpatient and outpatient coding standards, including ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding systems.
      • Experience leading coding quality, clinical documentation improvement, compliance, and data integrity initiatives.
      • Demonstrated ability to analyze healthcare data, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
      • Strong understanding of CMS regulations, healthcare compliance requirements, and reimbursement processes.
      • Proven leadership skills with experience managing teams, projects, and cross-functional initiatives.
      • Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
      • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining strong relationships with internal partners.
