Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Contracts based in the United States.

This fully remote leadership role offers the opportunity to own and shape the contracts and compliance function within a growing organization serving the federal government sector. You will lead the full lifecycle of complex government contracts, from solicitation review and drafting through negotiation, execution, administration, and compliance. The role combines hands-on contract work with strategic responsibility for building scalable policies, processes, controls, and risk-management practices. You will serve as a senior advisor to executive leadership and cross-functional teams, translating complex regulatory requirements into practical business actions. The position also provides an opportunity to mentor contracts professionals and develop a high-performing function as the organization grows. It is an ideal role for an experienced federal contracts leader who combines exceptional technical knowledge with strong business judgment, negotiation skills, and collaborative leadership.

Accountabilities:

    • Lead the continued development and enhancement of the contracts and compliance function, establishing effective policies, procedures, controls, templates, workflows, and supporting tools.
    • Own the full lifecycle of federal prime contracts, subcontracts, teaming agreements, NDAs, consulting agreements, and other business agreements, including drafting, reviewing, redlining, negotiating, interpreting, and administering contracts.
    • Independently conduct detailed reviews of complex and high-volume agreements, identifying inaccuracies, ambiguous or unfavorable provisions, missing or unnecessary clauses, flow-down requirements, compliance obligations, and legal, financial, operational, security, and delivery risks.
    • Develop clear redlines, recommendations, and proposed contractual language to resolve identified issues while escalating only material business decisions or risks that require executive input.
    • Lead contract negotiations and represent organizational interests while balancing favorable commercial outcomes with practical judgment and strong, professional stakeholder relationships.
    • Review federal solicitations to identify contractual requirements, compliance concerns, proposal risks, and organizational conflict-of-interest requirements, including developing appropriate mitigation strategies.
    • Lead subcontract solicitations and negotiations and support contractual aspects of cost and price analyses in collaboration with Finance, Business Development, and project leadership.
    • Research, interpret, and apply the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), agency supplements, statutes, and other applicable federal contracting requirements, including unfamiliar or evolving regulations.
    • Monitor regulatory and policy changes, assess their impact on existing contracts and business processes, and translate new requirements into practical guidance, updates, and implementation actions.
    • Serve as the organization's compliance lead by overseeing compliance programs, monitoring statutory, regulatory, and contractual obligations, and developing training and guidance for management and employees.
    • Supervise, mentor, and develop contracts professionals through clear direction, constructive feedback, knowledge sharing, and progressive delegation.
    • Remain actively involved in complex and high-volume contract matters while building a scalable and high-performing contracts function.
    • Collaborate with Executive Leadership, Business Development, Finance, Human Resources, Project Management, IT and Security, and technical teams to understand business implications, gather subject-matter expertise, and support informed decisions.
    • Strengthen contract administration, compliance practices, and cross-functional processes across the organization.
    • Requirements:

      • Bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of progressively responsible contracts experience gained primarily while working for a federal government contractor as a prime contractor or subcontractor.
      • At least 5 years of recent, substantial hands-on experience drafting, reviewing, redlining, negotiating, and administering complex federal contracts, subcontracts, teaming agreements, NDAs, and other business agreements.
      • At least 3 years of experience leading a contracts function and supervising or managing contracts professionals.
      • Demonstrated experience with GSA Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) contracts.
      • Extensive experience managing the full lifecycle of federal prime contracts and subcontracts, including Firm-Fixed-Price, Time-and-Materials, and Cost-Reimbursable agreements.
      • Deep knowledge of the FAR and applicable agency supplements, including clause applicability, flow-down requirements, solicitation reviews, OCI requirements, and contractual and compliance risk assessment.
      • Demonstrated ability to independently review complex agreements in detail, identify business and compliance risks, and develop practical solutions while maintaining exceptional accuracy and responsiveness.
      • Exceptional drafting, analytical, critical-thinking, negotiation, and business judgment skills, with the ability to achieve favorable outcomes through collaborative negotiations.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex contractual and regulatory matters clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
      • Strong research skills and intellectual curiosity, with the initiative to investigate unfamiliar issues and translate regulatory developments into practical process improvements.
      • Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, coach, and develop contracts professionals.
      • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex contracting matters.
      • Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
      • A Master’s degree and/or Juris Doctor (JD) is preferred.
      • Experience supporting a small or mid-sized federal government contractor is preferred.
      • Professional contracts certification such as CFCM, CPCM, or CCCM is preferred.
      • Additional knowledge of employment law, corporate governance, intellectual property, data rights, software licensing, privacy, information security, insurance, and commercial legal concepts relevant to government contracting is advantageous.
      • Must reside in the United States.
      • Benefits:

        • Annual salary range of $170,000–$190,000.
        • Fully remote position for candidates residing in the United States.
        • Opportunity to lead and shape a growing contracts and compliance function.
        • Significant exposure to complex federal government contracting and regulatory matters.
        • Leadership and team-development responsibilities with the opportunity to mentor contracts professionals.
        • High level of cross-functional collaboration with executive, finance, business development, project management, technology, security, HR, and technical teams.
        • Opportunity to contribute to strategic process improvements, compliance initiatives, and organizational growth.
        • Remote-first work environment with opportunities for in-person collaboration during key organizational events, including an annual company meeting.
        • Equal-opportunity workplace committed to an inclusive and accessible employment environment.
