Position Overview
Job Description
Arriva is one of Europe's leading passenger transport providers, connecting millions of people and communities every day across 11 countries. With a strong heritage, ambitious growth plans and a commitment to sustainability, we're investing in the future of mobility and creating new opportunities across our business.
We're looking for an Employment Lawyer to join our Legal team on a 12-month fixed-term basis. This is a broad role which will involve advising on the full range of employment law matters, supporting HR and the business on both day-to-day issues and more complex or strategic work. We are open to candidates across a range of PQE levels, provided you have solid employment law experience and are comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
While this position is initially offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract, it supports a long-term requirement within the team and there is a strong expectation that the role will become permanent following the fixed-term period.
The role
You will provide practical, commercial employment law advice across a wide range of areas, including:
- Disciplinary and grievance processes
- TUPE (including business transfers and service provision changes)
- Drafting and advising on contracts of employment and policy documentation
- Redundancy and restructuring exercises
- Employee relations issues, including absence management, performance and conduct
- Settlement agreements and exits
- General advisory support to HR and line managers
You will also manage your own caseload of Employment Tribunal matters from inception through to hearing, working closely with internal stakeholders and, where required, external counsel.
There will be opportunities to get involved in wider project work, including supporting the business in preparing for and implementing upcoming legislative changes such as the Employment Rights Act 2025.
In addition, you will support the delivery of training and upskilling for HR teams and line managers, helping to build capability across the business.
This role offers hybrid working, with a minimum of three days per week spent in one of our corporate office locations and the remainder of the week working remotely.
About you, we are looking for someone who:
- Is a qualified solicitor or barrister with experience in employment law (all PQE levels considered)
- Has strong experience of advising on a broad range of non-contentious employment matters
- Has experience managing Employment Tribunal claims
- Is comfortable working independently and managing a varied caseload
- Can provide clear, pragmatic and commercially focused advice
It would be advantageous if you also have:
- Experience of Tribunal advocacy, particularly at preliminary hearing level
- Experience delivering training to HR teams or managers
- Exposure to project-based work, including legislative change programmes
Why join us
This is a hands-on role with real variety and responsibility, offering the opportunity to work closely with the business and make a tangible impact. You will be joining a collaborative team in a supportive but fast-moving environment.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 26 July 2026. Arriva Group reserves the right to close this vacancy early.
