Overview
To provide high-level business, strategic, and operational support to the General Counsel (GC) to optimize the effectiveness of their role. Acts as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the GC, supporting decision-making, executive engagement, and the delivery of key Legal and organization priorities.
Responsible for overseeing and executing strategic initiatives and special projects on behalf of the General Counsel, researching market and policy intelligence, preparing executive briefing materials, and coordinating stakeholder engagement activities. The role serves as a key liaison across Legal and business leadership teams, building strong internal and external relationships that support the organization's strategic objectives.
Your role
- Serve as an integrator connecting the GC and the Legal team with the businesses to ensure alignment on strategic priorities and company initiatives.
- Provide strategic advice and support to the General Counsel on business, legal, governance, regulatory, and other matters affecting the company.
- Lead and manage high-priority and confidential projects on behalf of the General Counsel, driving execution, stakeholder alignment, governance, and successful delivery.
- Prepare executive briefing materials, discussion papers, presentations, speaking notes, and meeting preparation packages for the General Counsel's internal and external engagements.
- Develop comprehensive stakeholder dossiers and "zipper" packages, including organizational intelligence, relationship mapping, historical context, key risks and opportunities, and recommended discussion points for executive meetings.
- Conduct horizon scanning of geopolitical, industry, public policy and market trends that may impact the organization, identify risks, opportunities, and recommended actions and prepare strategic recommendations for the General Counsel.
- Attend meetings with the General Counsel and key stakeholders, documenting outcomes, monitoring commitments, and ensuring timely execution of follow-up actions.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with executive leadership, business leaders, external counsel, and other strategic stakeholders.
- Generate insights and recommendations to support the visibility and influence of the General Counsel and the Legal function both internally and externally, including preparation for conferences, leadership forums, industry events, and executive engagements.
- Partner closely with Chiefs of Staff and Executive Assistants across the organization to ensure alignment and coordination of enterprise priorities and executive initiatives.
About you
- Experience conducting policy analysis, industry benchmarking, and market intelligence assessment are considered as an asset.
- Experience handling highly confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner.
- Strategic thinking, business acumen, and ability to assess complex business, legal, regulatory, and organizational issues.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience leveraging data, reporting tools, and AI-enabled productivity tools to support executive decision-making.
- Superior communication and presentation skills; ability to create compelling executive-level storyboards, briefing papers, presentations, and strategic communications.
- Strong analytical and research capabilities, with experience synthesizing large volumes of information into concise and actionable recommendations.
- Ability to absorb information rapidly through verbal and written communications and formulate informed recommendations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish credibility and build and maintain trusted relationships with senior leaders and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and navigate highly matrixed environments.
- Proven organizational and project management capabilities with strong attention to detail and execution.
- Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal supervision while exercising sound judgment and discretion.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
Preferred Experience :
- 7 years qualified lawyer. Experience with strategy, public policy, corporate affairs, governance, risk management, or a Chief of Staff role considered a strong asset.
- Experience supporting C-suite executives and senior leadership teams an asset.
- Experience within a large in-house legal department, preferably of an engineering, professional services, or a highly regulated business environment, considered a strong asset.
- Bilingualism (French and English)
* Member of the Canadian or Global Leadership Team: This position requires knowledge of a language other than French, namely English, as it involves collaboration with members of the Canadian or global leadership team located outside Québec.
