In order to support the Legal Team of Defence Digital, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a Legal Counsel (m/f/d) to join us in Ottobrunn, Germany.

In Defence Digital we are developing cutting-edge software solutions, cloud infrastructures, and AI- driven command and control systems to protect airspace against modern threats with a strong emphasis on the digital transformation of armed forces and Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD).

This role is also available with reduced weekly hours and an adapted scope of tasks.

Your tasks and responsibilities

You will be joining a business that makes a decisive contribution to national and international security. As part of the legal team of Defence Digital you will be providing comprehensive legal expertise to the business and advise on complex regulatory frameworks, high-stakes defense procurement contracts, and national and international cooperation agreements and strategic partnerships.

In your role you will be conducting worldwide transactions with customers, suppliers and partners from bid to project closure implying the following primary activities:

  • Support the business in the preparation and submission of national and international bids in response to customer Requests for Proposals (RfP) by analyzing the respective terms and conditions, identifying legal risks and proposing mitigation actions/solutions

  • Draft and negotiate transaction documents (Teaming Agreements, Cooperation Agreements, Partnership Agreements, JV Agreements, Commercial Contracts etc.), with a specific focus on strategic partnerships with Start-Ups, in close cooperation and alignment with other relevant internal stakeholders (Strategy, Sales, Program, Antitrust, Compliance, Procurement)

  • Represent the legal function in Bid Approval Committee meetings

  • Provide internal stakeholders with timely advice in different areas of law such as Commercial and Contract Law, IT Law, IP Law, German Public Procurement Law, EU Law and Digital Laws on European and national level, Corporate Law, Investment Law, Venture Captial Law, Investment Law, M&A Law, Arbitration Law

  • Support strategies in order to avoid litigations, and in case of litigations, manage the case in coordination with the litigation team including support of external law firms

  • Propose, draft and keep up-to-date our standard contract templates

  • Provide support to the management in the monitoring of subsidiaries

  • Contribute in developing and providing legal and compliance awareness of other departments such as Marketing, Sales, Commercial, Procurement

  • Instructing and managing relationship with external legal advisors

  • Contribute to the evolution of the legal department to foster efficient and lean ways of working including constant dialogue and cooperation with other internal departments

  • Support contracts, claim and waiver management in order to ensure an efficient and profitable project execution

  • Support the evolution of Connected Intelligence in adopting digital business models (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS) including aspects of Digital Transformation, AI, Cloud, Cyber

  • Implement and promote the Airbus Ethics and Compliance policies and company values

  • Together with the other team members, you will contribute to the evolution of the legal organization of Connected Intelligence and Defence Digital

  • You will provide support and training to the business and legal colleagues to share expertise

Desired skills and qualifications
  • You hold an advanced Law degree in German Law (2. Juristisches Staatsexamen).

  • You bring 8-10 years of professional legal experience within a multinational company or law firm, ideally in the defence and security sector.

  • You demonstrate deep knowledge across commercial, corporate, public procurement, IT, Anti Trust, Data Protection, and digital laws.

  • You possess strong contract drafting and negotiation skills with fluency in English and negotiation-level German (French or Spanish is an asset).

  • You work autonomously, proactively, and reliably with a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset.

  • You are open to travel and keen to embrace new digital tools and modern ways of working

  • You showcase excellent interpersonal skills with a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach to complex challenges.

  • You demonstrate an open mindset, a drive for continuous improvement and an eagerness to embrace new digital ways of working.

  • This position requires a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.
