Job Description

Gibson Dunn is a leading global law firm, advising clients on significant transactions and disputes. Our exceptional teams craft and deploy creative legal strategies that are meticulously tailored to every matter, however complex or high stakes. The Firm’s work is distinguished by a unique combination of precision and vision.

Based in London, the Legal Technology & AI Attorney – International Disputes will sit at the intersection of legal practice, technology, and experimentation within the Disputes Practice Group. This role is designed for a lawyer with a strong Disputes foundation who is deeply engaged with how AI, technology, and new ways of working are reshaping legal practice and will continue to transform legal practice in the years to come.

The ideal candidate brings substantive credibility to earn the trust of practising lawyers, combined with an innovator’s mindset energised by designing, testing, and scaling new tools, workflows, and systems. As part of the Knowledge Management & AI Group, this position collaborates across offices and administrative teams—including Research, Practice Group Management, and Information Technology—to translate emerging technology into practical, high-impact tools for lawyers and clients.

This role reports to the Sr. Director & Counsel of Knowledge & AI.

Responsibilities include:

AI, Technology & Innovation

  • Identify opportunities to apply AI, automation, and emerging technologies to Disputes matters, including litigation and collective proceedings, international arbitration, labour and employment, antitrust and competition, and white collar matters, informed by a strong understanding of Disputes practice and lawyer workflows.
  • Evaluate, prototype, and implement AI-assisted tools, document automation solutions, prompt libraries, and technology-enabled workflows to enhance efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
  • Participate in technology pilots and assessments, including AI-driven research, drafting, knowledge extraction, document analysis, and market analytics platforms.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, technologists, and administrative teams to design practical, user-centred tools that reflect real-world legal judgment and practice needs.
  • Lead training sessions for attorneys and staff to promote the effective use of knowledge systems, AI tools, and new workflows.
  • Capture feedback from lawyers and stakeholders to support continuous improvement of KM products, processes, and technology adoption.

Knowledge Assets and Systems

  • Support the ongoing enhancement of the Firm’s Disputes knowledge and work-product resources by integrating evolving legal, regulatory, and market developments into model materials, guidance, and related content, with a focus on modernising the way such resources are organised, maintained, and leveraged.
  • Use AI-assisted tools and structured review mechanisms to analyse, compare, and refine Disputes work product and knowledge materials against internal standards and evolving law, regulation, and market practice.
  • Help build and maintain scalable precedent and knowledge infrastructure that improves consistency, promotes knowledge reuse, and supports AI-assisted and other legal technology initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted internal resource for Disputes lawyers, providing practical legal judgment and guidance while translating substantive expertise into effective knowledge and technology solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated passion for AI and emerging technology, including a strong perspective on how such tools can be applied to Disputes legal practice and workflows.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, technologists, and administrative professionals.
  • Strong initiative and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to exercise independent judgment in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Creative and strategic thinker who is open to experimentation, iteration, and multiple approaches to complex problems.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines concurrently.
  • Commitment to knowledge-sharing, efficiency, and excellence in legal work, with a focus on client service and business impact.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across practice groups and departments.

Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Laws, J.D., or equivalent with strong academic credentials; must be a qualified lawyer in England & Wales.
  • Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience in litigation, arbitration, or other contentious practice; other relevant backgrounds will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply legal training to new contexts, including workflow design, tool development, or process improvement efforts; personal or professional coding or tech-related building experience is very highly valued.

Gibson Dunn will consider for employment qualified Applicants with Criminal Histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of local law.
