GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Office of Guardian ad Litem provides high-quality legal advocacy and services to juveniles involved in abuse and neglect, children in need of supervision, and delinquency cases within the highly complex legal arenas of juvenile law. Wyoming Statutes require the appointment of a GAL in child abuse and neglect proceedings pursuant to Wyo. Stat. Ann. 14-3-416 and 14-12-101. This is an essential position for the state and will carry a full caseload for the 3rd Judicial District, including supervising duties for other GAL. Position will assist the agency Director on an as-needed basis. This position will represent clients in court for shelter care hearings, initial appearances, adjudicatory hearings, disposition hearings, review hearings, and permanency hearings. In addition, this position will attend non-court hearings such as IEPs, MDTs, family partnership meetings, and any other meetings pertinent to a client's case. Furthermore, the GAL is responsible for drafting motions on behalf of the clients. This position will work in concert with the office's legal assistants and act as the liaison between the Office of Guardian ad Litem and District Three and other juvenile stakeholders (DA's office, DFS, CASA, and juvenile court).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
- Represent juveniles involved in A/N, CHINS, and delinquency in Sweetwater County.
- Perform and/or manage "caseloads," which include interviewing and advising clients on legal issues and obligations.
- Investigate and analyze case materials and conduct legal research.
- Prepares and submits legal documents to clients and courts, and appears in court for various hearings.
- Participate in projects directly offered by the Office of GAL and other stakeholders.
- Assist in disseminating cases and staffing them with other GAL.
- Oversee all District Three cases.
- Conduct in-house training for all agency attorneys when appropriate, provide the Director with updates on the development and performance of staff, compile IV-E numbers for them, and then provide them to the Director as well.
