Job Description

The Privacy Analyst works closely with the Privacy Leadership to administer USC Health System's privacy program. This position will perform various tasks aimed at monitoring the Health System's compliance with HIPAA, CMIA, GDPR, other state and federal patient and data privacy laws, and the Health System's own policies. The Privacy Analyst will be responsible for conducting audits and privacy related investigations, including but not limited to, supporting and implementing enhanced strategies for the privacy program, revising privacy related policies and procedures, reviewing and revising other privacy related forms and agreements, assisting with governance reporting, and developing and conducting privacy training and education.


Essential Duties

  • Investigates, manages, and mitigates privacy incidents, complaints, or breaches. Ensures all reports required under applicable privacy laws and regulations are completed and submitted in a compliant and timely manner and at the direction of counsel or designee.
  • Compile, categorize, and prepare performance metrics for governance reporting.
  • Conducts audits of access to electronic medical records to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Conducts research on privacy related topics, as needed. Serves as a resource for questions regarding the application of relevant privacy laws and regulations, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the development and revision of Health System’s privacy policies and procedures. Assists with dissemination, training, interpretation and application of program policies for the Health System.
  • Participates in the development and execution of a plan for building awareness of the privacy program throughout the Health System. Facilitates and promotes activities to foster information, privacy awareness and compliance.
  • Assists with developing and conducting privacy training and education to all applicable clinical faculty, hospital staff, volunteers, and third parties. Educates and motivates target audiences.
  • Assists with reviewing the Health System systems and processes to ensure compliance with privacy requirements in partnership with the Health System information security office and Health IT office.
  • Remains informed on the changing privacy landscape by monitoring applicable federal and state privacy laws and regulations, as well as accreditation standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor’s Degree
  • Req 2 years Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting, handling matters related to compliance and/or privacy and confidentiality of patient health information
  • Req Demonstrated knowledge and ability to understand and provide advice on state and federal privacy regulations applying to the use, access and disclosure of confidential protected health information.
  • Req Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work autonomously, and drive projects forward to completion.
  • Req Requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to apply critical thinking and investigatory skills to complex issues.
  • Req Appropriately prioritize work responsibilities and effectively manage fluctuating workload demands.
  • Req Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with diverse personalities and skill sets.
  • Req The capability to effectively interact with patients in resolving privacy complaints.
  • Req Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Req Highly skilled in Microsoft Office suite applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Req Demonstrated understanding of health care operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref Experience using a data analytics tool and/or proactive privacy monitoring software.
  • Pref Certification - Job Relevant Certification in healthcare privacy or security (e.g., CHC, CHPC, and CIPP), completion of an accredited healthcare privacy or security field of study.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only).

The annual base salary range for this position is $84,365.00 - $138,330.00.
