Our client, a mission-driven, fast-growing cloud company and leader in real-time analytics, data warehousing, and data observability, has exclusively engaged Solutus Legal Search to assist its executives in hiring an attorney to serve as Senior Commercial Counsel.

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, this attorney will be an early member of the company’s legal team. This attorney will be responsible for supporting the EMEA sales team in reviewing and negotiating customer agreements and providing legal support for revenue-generating activities across the EMEA region. This role is remote, based in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Become an important member of the commercial legal team responsible for supporting the go-to-market team by reviewing and negotiating the company’s customer contracts. Your primary focus will be supporting the EMEA sales team, with opportunities to support APAC as we grow the commercial legal function.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with the EMEA sales team and act as a solutions-oriented business partner to the company’s EMEA sales team by providing pragmatic, sound legal counsel.
  • Lead complex cross-border transactions with sophisticated counterparties located across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Monitor and advise on relevant regulatory, compliance or legal developments impacting the business in the EMEA region, and partner with the broader Legal team and cross-functional stakeholders where required.
  • Provide training and enablement to internal stakeholders on legal issues and contract processes.
  • Help maintain and update our legal agreements, policies, and templates; develop and improve scalable workflows to enable rapid revenue growth and stability for the company.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Law degree and member in good standing in the UK; international legal experience a plus.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience practicing both with a law firm and in-house at a high growth technology company.
  • Proven experience drafting, negotiating, closing and advising on complex commercial software and SaaS agreements with enterprise customers, partners, and resellers across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong understanding of commercial legal issues related to SaaS and software licensing (i.e., data privacy, security, intellectual property, open-source, revenue recognition, and tax), professional services and other go-to-market programs (such as partner/reseller programs).
  • Excellent judgement, strong business orientation and ability to translate legal risk into practical commercial advice within the context of business objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and management skills; ability to build trust and strong relationships with the company’s sales team, cross-functional stakeholders and customers.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a high-growth environment.
  • Experience supporting high growth infrastructure SaaS company.

What Makes This Opportunity Exceptional

    • Partner with an exceptional legal leader. Work alongside a seasoned and thoughtful Chief Legal Officer who is committed to mentoring, developing talent, and building a world-class legal function.
    • Join a best-in-class legal department. Become part of a high-caliber, collaborative legal team that is viewed as a trusted strategic partner to the business.
    • Help shape a high-growth company. Join an organization at an exciting stage of growth where legal has a meaningful seat at the table and the opportunity to influence the company's continued global expansion.
    • Drive business, not just legal outcomes. Partner closely with sales and executive leadership to structure complex commercial transactions, enable revenue growth, and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
    • Work on sophisticated, global matters. Lead complex enterprise SaaS transactions with some of the world’s most sophisticated customers, partners, and resellers across EMEA and multiple jurisdictions.
    • Build for scale. Help develop scalable contracting processes, playbooks, and legal infrastructure that will support the company's next phase of growth.
