As a Senior Consultant, Compliance: You will be responsible for leading and managing the effective execution of compliance and governance initiatives, supporting our vision to be recognized as the best disability management provider for clients in Canada.  You will enable, engage & support our partners in achieving operational excellence and Client objectives.  You will own the planning and execution of compliance practices that are aligned with the strategic direction of Group Disability.  Collaboration with stakeholders is key, as you will be responsible for developing evidence-based, leading-edge practices that will contribute to strong financial outcome.  

What will you do? 

• Position Sun Life as a leader in Organizational Disability Management by identifying and delivering opportunities to profile the organization's thought leadership
• Serve as subject matter expert in disability management compliance and governance for complex, cross-functional strategic initiatives
• Enhance disability operations knowledge and develop innovative solutions through collaboration with internal and external partners
• Create practical solutions addressing client needs and supporting sustainable recoveries while leveraging the Sun Life ecosystem
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with organizational objectives through the Practice Excellence and Innovation team

Primary Operational Duties

• Author and maintain the Business Continuity Plan; manage daily Compliance and Governance inbox operations, oversee Privacy Breaches, LTD Large Benefit Payment Reports, Business Impact Assessments, and consent committees etc to ensure regulatory compliance
• Manage Group Disability compliance and governance across SOX, 3416, Internal Audit, Deloitte, and OSFI frameworks while developing and enhancing audit processes—including extended audits, trending analysis, audit narratives and matrices— AVP National-level reporting.
• Conduct attestations, substantive testing, risk validations, and Life Cycle Data destruction activities

• Identify, assess, monitor, and report financial and business risks within Group Disability activities while ensuring management compliance to standards
• Collaborate with Business Units and Corporate Risk Management to reinforce a Risk Management culture across Sun Life Financial Canada
• Develop tools and frameworks to enhance compliance and governance control analysis and management

• Provide comprehensive compliance and governance support to Group Disability Claims operations ; coordinate escalated case conferences as required

• Support Group Disability Claims initiatives from a compliance and risk perspective to advance business objectives

• Provide leadership, management, and development support to Group Disability Learning & Development teams
• Document and communicate governance and compliance challenges, responsibilities, and developments

What you need to succeed: 

• College or university degree in related field 
• Deep subject matter expertise in disability management and/or organizational health, preferably in the financial services industry 
• Understand and stay abreast of leading-edge disability management practices and ability to identify how they can transform our business  

• Excellent communicator and comfortable presenting to a wide array of audiences, including senior leaders  
• Demonstrated experience collaborating with stakeholders    
• Thrives in a dynamic, fast paced environment, managing time effectively and efficiently  
• As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
