Senior Legal Counsel-Wholesale Banking.Legal-Legal Department

The Senior Legal Counsel-Wholesale Banking position is a key role within our Legal Department. You will be an integral part of our team, offering expert legal support and guidance on high-value banking and finance transactions. With significant autonomy, you will draft and negotiate complex financing agreements, advise on regulatory matters, and represent Mashreq in critical meetings. This role provides an excellent platform to make a meaningful impact, mentor junior staff, and contribute to our bank's success.

• Lead and provide expert legal support on complex banking transactions, including syndicated loans and structured finance deals.
• Draft, review, and negotiate financing documentation, ensuring compliance with UAE and international banking laws and regulations.
• Advise on regulatory and legal risks for our Corporate & Investment Banking and International Banking groups.
• Represent Mashreq in high-level meetings with clients, regulators, and industry bodies, showcasing your expertise and negotiating skills.
• Manage external counsel, ensuring efficient and effective legal support for the bank's operations.
• Contribute to the development of legal policies and strategies, helping to shape the bank's legal framework.
• Support bank-wide initiatives focused on innovation, digital transformation, and emerging technologies, offering legal guidance and expertise.
• Mentor and guide junior legal staff, promoting best practices and high standards in legal advice and documentation.
• Stay updated on legal and regulatory changes, ensuring the bank remains compliant with all relevant laws.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide timely, accurate, and practical legal advice and support.

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent, with a strong academic background and a proven track record.
• Admission to the bar or equivalent legal qualification in the UAE is mandatory.
• A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a similar legal counsel role, preferably within the banking and finance industry.
• Deep expertise in UAE and international banking laws, and a solid understanding of financial services regulation.
• Proven ability to navigate complex financing structures and regulatory frameworks, with a successful track record.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts.
• Strong leadership and mentorship skills, with a history of developing and guiding junior legal talent.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent commercial acumen, a results-driven mindset, and a commitment to delivering high-quality legal services.
• Fluency in English is essential, with proficiency in Arabic being an added advantage.
