What is the opportunity?
You will be a key member of the RBC Privacy team performing a 2nd Line of Defence role within the wider Compliance function. In this role you will:
Ensure the Global Privacy Program continues to evolve to meet the applicable regulatory requirements, and to demonstrate compliance with local privacy laws, and other laws and regulations (where applicable).
Drive a culture of privacy by advocating for privacy by design and integration of the RBC privacy principles, accountability and sharing of best practice across all businesses and functions in the region.
Support Global Privacy’s ongoing transformation to a risk management function through oversight, anchored 1LOD accountability, improved risk assessment methodology, enhanced reporting and adopted Regulatory Compliance Management practices.

This is a permanent, full-time role and requires 4 days in the office at our Newcastle office.
What will you do?
Support the Head of Privacy, UK, Europe and APAC to provide oversight and support across UK and European businesses and functions.
Support and contribute towards the maintenance and enhancement of the Global Privacy Program within the region.
Collaborate with the 1st Line of Defence Privacy teams and ensure appropriate oversight of the activities performed by these teams.
Ensure a consistent approach to privacy risk management by strengthening overall oversight and challenge for UK and European businesses and functions.
Escalation of significant risks, concerns and challenges to the Head of Privacy, UK, Europe and APAC and relevant senior stakeholders within Compliance function.
Assessment of any escalations relating to collection or use of personal data which may not be compliant with RBC’s policies and procedures or with our regulatory obligations and take any necessary actions.
Support and advise on the management of data incidents and breaches, in line with privacy legislation, and local and global policies and procedures.
Work closely with business areas to identify, document and track their privacy risks and recommend actions to address them, reporting on the risk position as required, through formal organisational risk management processes.
Support local and enterprise reporting on privacy compliance activities.
Monitor changes to the privacy laws, regulations and best practice within the region, assisting with impact and gap assessments to effect timely changes to policies, supporting the business to update their processes and controls.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
Established track record and proven expertise in privacy.
Good technical knowledge of data privacy laws, regulations and practices in UK and Europe and experience of applying these in practice.
Experience in Risk Management.
Strong collaboration and excellent stakeholder management
Strategic thought and ability to drive change.
Nice-to-have
Previous experience in financial services industry
Relevant data privacy accreditation e.g. IAPP.
