Role Purpose
The Senior Paralegal provides high-level legal support across a broad range of marketing, advertising, and brand-related matters arising from the day-to-day operations of a large, fast-paced, and globally driven organization. Acting as a key partner to the Senior Counsel, Commercial and the wider Legal team, this role manages complex marketing-law workflows, supports brand protection initiatives, and drives operational efficiency within the marketing legal function.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Advertising Compliance
- Review and support the clearance of marketing materials, advertising campaigns, packaging copy, promotional programs and digital/social-media content for legal compliance.
- Track and ensure adherence to advertising regulations, industry self-regulatory codes (e.g., CARU, NAD, FTC), and internal marketing policies across multiple markets.
- Maintain a library of substantiation files, claim-support documentation, and regulatory guidance for marketing teams.
- Administer advertising copy review system including onboarding and training marketers on the system.
- Assists with the review of marketing materials for compliance with brand trademark guidelines.
Contract & Agency Management
- Revise, review, and manage marketing-related agreements including influencer and talent agreements, sponsorship deals, licensing agreements and Non-Disclosure agreements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external agencies and outside counsel on day-to-day marketing-legal matters.
- Review and process outside counsel and vendor invoices against billing guidelines; flag discrepancies and support cost-management initiatives.
Data, Reporting & Process Improvement
- Maintain and update the matter-management system with accurate data on marketing-legal matters, regulatory filings, and brand-protection actions.
- Prepare regular reports, dashboards, and metrics on marketing-legal activity for senior leadership.
- Identify opportunities to streamline marketing-review workflows, improve processes, and leverage technology within the function.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with internal stakeholders — including Marketing, Brand, Digital, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Licensing, Trademarks and regional business units — to provide timely legal support on campaigns and product launches.
- Support responses to regulatory inquiries from advertising standards bodies and the FTC.
- Assist with consumer-data privacy reviews related to marketing activities and other ad-hoc legal projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program.
- 7+ years of paralegal experience, with a strong focus on marketing law, advertising compliance, brand protection in a corporate legal department or law firm.
- Demonstrated expertise in advertising-clearance processes, NDAs, and marketing-related contract workflows.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred
- Experience in a multinational consumer-goods or food-and-beverage company.
- Familiarity with FTC advertising guidelines, NAD/CARU procedures, CCPA marketing-data requirements.
- Experience with matter-management, trademark-management, and legal-billing systems (e.g., Legal Tracker / Serengeti, CompuMark, SAP).
- Paralegal certification (e.g., CP, ACP through NALA; RP through NFPA).
- Notary Public commission (or willingness to obtain).
