What you'll do...
Role summary:The (USA) Director, Specialty Compliance and Ethics – AI Governance leads the development and execution of compliance strategies using technology to enable responsible AI use. This role directs AI governance compliance, embedding technology controls throughout an AI system's lifecycle. This position oversees the strategy for translating evolving laws and regulations into risk identification and design and deployment of technical controls. The role collaborates with engineering teams on AI governance technology design and deployment, defines and designs guardrails, continuously tests and monitors, is accountable for key performance metrics, creates policy, and drives continuous enhancements aligned with business objectives.
About the team:
The AI Governance Compliance Team, within Global Governance, leads responsible AI innovation through a robust governance framework focused on training, assessment, policies, and technical monitoring. The team ensures alignment with Walmart’s values and regulatory requirements while collaborating across business units and enabling functions such as Global Technology and Product Teams. Prioritizing speed and compliance, it develops strategies to manage emerging risks, regulatory changes, and internal controls. The team drives continuous improvement and leverages technology solutions to maintain high standards in compliance and ethics throughout the organization.
What you'll do:
- Direct the design of processes and technology solutions to manage risk and enhance compliance effectiveness at scale.
- Collaborate in building responsible AI tools and capabilities that make it simple for developers to build and deploy AI responsibly.
- Collaborate with senior management to communicate compliance strategies related to AI governance technology throughout AI lifecycle.
- Build process for consistency in monitoring and testing, and operations at scale.
- Contribute to compliance program metrics and coordinate cross-functional policy and training development, and technology design and deployment, for organizational alignment.
- Foster a culture of integrity by integrating ethical standards into all programs and supporting open communication channels.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience in technology enablement of compliance programs, compliance management, regulatory requirements, and risk management within complex organizations.
- A builder with proven ability to develop, implement, and improve policies, procedures, and internal controls aligned with business strategy.
- Strong technical acumen, including familiarity with technology solutions, DevOps, and AIOps to enhance compliance processes.
- Expertise in conducting compliance auditing, gap analysis, and managing change to address emerging risks.
- Demonstrated leadership in collaborating with senior management and cross-functional teams to drive compliance and ethics programs.
- Excellent communication skills to present impact analyses and influence organizational alignment.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and fostering a culture of integrity and accountability.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
