The VP and General Counsel, LSIG (Life Sciences Innovation Group) supports the LSIG Operating Companies (OpCos) and our Molecular Devices business. The VP GC will advise the LSIG leaders on strategic imperatives and managing the legal leadership of each of the LSIG OpCos. This person is also responsible for providing leadership, guidance, direction, and assistance in connection with a wide variety of legal, regulatory, compliance, and business matters globally to Molecular Devices. The General Counsel reports to Danaher Corporation’s Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Group Executive of LSIG. Reporting to the General Counsel is a team of professionals managing the gamut of general legal matters.
This is an onsite role in our office in Waltham, MA.
In this role you will have the opportunity to:
Gain solid understanding of the business, its goals, and challenges to effectively business partner
Advise the LSIG Group Executive and Molecular Devices President and staff on strategy
Lead diligence and manage integration of new OpCos into LSIG and coach/mentor LSIG OpCo legal leaders on diligence and integration activities of bolt-ons to their businesses
Responsibility for OpCo dedicated legal team members supporting LSIG OpCos; develop and implement legal strategy on high risk and/or high value matters
Champion engagement to build organizational and people capabilities, identifying opportunities for synergies and shared service across LSIG
Develop future leaders, build the bench with diverse talent; import and export talent
The essential requirements of the job include:
A law degree from a U.S. law school, preferably one recognized for graduating top lawyers
Extensive exposure to and success in a dynamic med-device, life sciences or pharma business environment
Fifteen or more years of practice, background in IP preferred but not required
Understanding of Quality Management Systems in regulated and non-regulated environments
Seven to ten years of leadership experience
Major law firm experience, partnership preferred, or equivalent in-house experience, or combination of the two
Substantial responsibility in various areas of law and/or business
Travel Requirements:
Ability to travel 20-30%
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Experience in-house is not necessary but helpful; some experiences that suggest an ability to hit ground running in a complex, semi-matrixed organization is a must
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed, perhaps as much as 20-30% of time
Some international experience, foreign language capability a plus
Must be an excellent lawyer, able to explain complex legal points to business leaders with varying degrees of sophistication about legal matters; able to take business leaders’ concerns and demands into account in how best to pursue legal strategies
Intelligent and articulate; nimble and quick-minded; able and willing to engage in debate; unwilling to accept unethical conduct or outcomes that threaten Molecular Devices or Danaher
Business-minded
Ability to balance numerous matters and “masters” while prioritizing same on a day-to-day basis as events require
Able to command the respect of, and influence, business leaders and outside counsel across a wide spectrum of experience and sophistication
Work effectively with lower-level employees, yet communicate with effectiveness and polish at the most senior levels
Tough-minded but able to be flexible when the situation demands it, able to think on feet, ability to engage in searching, critical discussion without personalizing outcomes
High integrity and ethics in all dealings – internal, external, and personal; non-political in conduct, while understanding internal and external political dynamics
Open to learning, enthused by the day, resilient, sense of humor
Willing to work on the smallest and simplest, as well as the most complex, legal matters faced by the company
Ability to lead and communicate with a team of highly qualified professionals, provide coaching and developmental opportunities

The annual salary range for this role is $255,675 - $401,775. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
