The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) is a small Pacific common-law jurisdiction with its courts and government centered in Majuro. Legal work is concentrated in the RMI Judiciary, the Attorney-General's Office, a small private bar, and the corporate/registry sector tied to the country's prominent ship- and corporate-registry industry. The market is small and the bar is administered directly by the courts rather than an independent law society.
Graduate from an approved law school (an ABA-approved US law school, a common-law-based law school accredited in its own country, or another school approved by the Supreme Court), then apply to take the RMI written bar examination and meet character-and-fitness requirements. There is also a separate 'trial assistant' route by which RMI citizens may be admitted without the bar exam or an approved law degree, but only to act as counsel and advise on specified matters. After passing the exam and being admitted, attorneys are bound by the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and must reside in or maintain an active practice in the RMI.
