Qatar is a Doha-centred Gulf market with a strong corporate and financial legal base, spanning energy and LNG, the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), banks, sovereign-linked entities, government bodies and courts. The QFC and the Qatar International Court add an English-language common-law layer alongside the onshore civil-law system, broadening in-house and disputes work. Many international lawyers work as legal consultants, while rights of audience before Qatari courts are tightly restricted.
Obtain a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent law degree; admission to the roll of practising lawyers under the Code of Law Practice is generally open to Qatari nationals and other GCC citizens with a recognised law degree. Register first on the roll of trainee lawyers, complete the required training (six months at the Center for Judicial and Legal Studies plus eighteen months at a practising lawyer's office), then be admitted by the Ministry of Justice's Lawyers Admission Committee to the practising roll. Non-GCC foreign lawyers generally work as registered legal consultants rather than as advocates before the courts.

To become a practising lawyer in Qatar you first obtain a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent. Admission to the roll of practising lawyers under the Code of Law Practice (Law No. 23 of 2006) is primarily for Qatari nationals and other GCC citizens with a recognised law degree. You register first as a trainee lawyer and complete the required training, six months at the Center for Judicial and Legal Studies plus eighteen months of supervised practice at a law office, before the Ministry of Justice's Lawyers Admission Committee admits you to the practising roll. Trainees face restrictions (for example, they generally may not appear before the Court of First Instance in their own name until after one year). Foreign (non-GCC) lawyers generally cannot appear as advocates before Qatari courts and instead practise as registered legal consultants.
