To become a lawyer in Saudi Arabia, first earn a degree from a Sharia college or a bachelor of law (or an equivalent post-graduate legal diploma). You then complete the required period of practical legal experience, generally three years, which is reduced to one year for a relevant master's degree and not required for a doctorate. After meeting good-conduct and other eligibility conditions, you register on the roll of practising lawyers, and the Ministry of Justice grants your practice license by ministerial resolution under the Code of Law Practice. Every licensed lawyer must then obtain basic membership of the Saudi Bar Association (Hay'at Al-Mohamin Al-Saudiyyin), which registers lawyers and sets professional standards under the Ministry's supervision; the license is valid for five years and renewable.
